Every degree and certificate offered at Triton College has different requirements. Most degrees and many certificates require English, Math and general education courses. Refer to the Triton College Catalog for particular degree, certificate requirements and course descriptions.

You may register online via the MyTriton Portal, via phone at (708) 456-0300, Ext. 3130 or in person. During most months of the year, you may schedule an appointment with a curriculum advisor to come up with an academic program plan so that you will know what classes are recommended for you to sign up for each semester. Registration starts early and the earlier you register, the more options you will have regarding course availability!

An Academic Program Plan is a map that lists each of the classes you need to take in order to complete your degree or certificate at Triton College. It maps each class in a semester-by-semester grid so that you know which classes you need to take each semester in order to complete your program.

We suggest that ALL students meet with their advisor to complete an Academic Program Plan in their first semester here at Triton College and review it with their advisor each semester. It also is a useful tool when planning to transfer from Triton College to another college or university.

A degree audit lists the courses you have already taken and what you have left to take for your degree or certificate. It does not include transfer information.

You can access your degree audit in your MyTriton Portal. You can also meet with your advisor to review your degree audit.

The prerequisites for the program can be found in the Triton College Catalog.

Each Allied Health Program has different prerequisites requirements. It is highly recommended that you attend an information session to learn about these programs and their prerequisites. For more information about the prerequisites, please refer to the Triton College Catalog.

Students are allowed to repeat courses and attempt to earn a higher grade for classes taken at Triton College. The highest grade received for that course will be used to compute the cumulative GPA. The lower grades will remain on the transcript, but will not be used to compute your Triton College GPA. A student transferring to another college should check that school’s repeat policy, as it may differ and your transfer admission GPA could be different.

When you transfer to other institutions, policies vary from school to school. Please reach out to your transfer school for the most up to date information.

Congratulations! You will need to fill out a graduation petition at the beginning of the semester that you plan to graduate. You may file your graduation petition through your MyTriton Portal, it is located under WebAdvisor for Students, Academic Planning, Application for Graduation. Feel free to meet with an advisor to verify that all of your requirements have been met.

If you are a new student, you are required to attend orientation which includes assessment testing, advising and registration. Contact the Office of Admission for more information.

We encourage all students to talk to an advisor, but only students on academic probation and with other academic statuses reflecting academic difficulty (cumulative GPA below 2.0 or completing less than 50 percent of the coursework registered for) are required to see an advisor, before being allowed to register. This is because we care about your success and want to do whatever we can to assist you in improving your academic performance. You will be contacted by mail if you are in any of these categories.

Advisors will assist you with course selection and with the basics of putting together a class schedule. Working out a complete schedule and selection of class times is one of your responsibilities as a college student.

The first math class you take at Triton College is determined by your ACT score or by your score on the Accuplacer administered in the Testing Center. Testing is available by appointment only. If you have transfer credits from another school in college-level math, you can bring your transcript to the Testing Office for a waiver of the test. Different majors require different kinds of math; the math class you take also depends on which school (or schools) to which you would like to transfer. See an advisor for more specific information about your situation.

It is best to talk to visit the Transfer Center about transferring courses to a specific college/university, as well as major requirements. We have some transfer guides for many Illinois college/universities. You can obtain them at any one of the advising offices. This and other transfer information is also available online. However, this information is not a substitute for meeting with an advisor. For example, it is best to talk to an advisor since the courses listed on the transfer guide may not be the only courses that transfer.

If you wish to withdraw from a class after regular registration, you must withdraw officially by submitting a withdrawal form to the Welcome Desk prior to the withdrawal deadline or by withdrawing from the course in your MyTriton Portal. A student who does not withdraw officially from a class is subject to an “F” grade. Remember, if you are not attending a class, it is your responsibility to drop the class. Your teacher cannot and will not automatically drop you.

Talk to your advisor about deadlines for dropping classes or you can refer to the Academic Calendar (Deadlines differ depending on the start/end dates of the course) or view your schedule in your MyTriton Portal.

Your advisor can also help you explore the pros and cons of your decision. Withdrawing a class may impact your financial aid or athletic eligibility. Check with those departments or a advisor before withdrawing a class.

You must get permission from the instructor. If the instructor does allow you to register for the class, you must obtain his/her signature on a general petition form as well as the Chairperson of the department. You need to bring this form to the Welcome Desk before you can officially register for the course.

You must have an official copy of your transcripts from each college previously attended sent to the Triton College Admissions Office via U.S. Mail or hand carry-in a sealed envelope containing the transcripts.

Once Admissions has received all your transcripts, you should receive information from the Records Evaluation via your lacolumnadecarlos.com email within several weeks. You are then encouraged to see an advisor to determine how all of your transfer courses fit with your degree requirements.

Advisors do not determine what courses will or will not be accepted for transfer credit at Triton College. We can look at the transcript and often times tell which courses will transfer over to Triton, but in some cases that may not be possible. When it is not possible, you will need to have the Records Evaluator Office, located in B-220, complete the official evaluation. The advisor can explain the process to have that completed.

You will want to identify the schools that you are interested in transferring to in order to see what their requirements are. You will need to fill out an application at the schools that you decide on and submit an official copy of your transcript. Once you find out if you have been accepted, you will need to inform the transfer institution when you plan on attending. We have a Transfer Center that is happy to help you with this process, as well as working directly with your advisor.
